Lake Eloise is on the famous Winter Haven chain of 24 lakes which wind through the city

Located on the shore’s edge of Lake Eloise on the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes, this Winter Haven Residence with Lakeside guest cottage sits on .91 acres (excluding the water and road right of way) and has 726 LF of lakefront and 710 LF of long lasting galvalum seawall.

The property is a short walk from Legoland, formerly Cypress Gardens, the first attraction in the United States.  It was built by Early Winter Haven businessman Victor Laughlin (Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home) and his wife, Elsie Laughlin, principal of Brigham Elementary and owner of Laughlin Land Kindergarten.  Van Johnson, and a host of other stars stayed in this quaint cottage while they were filming “Easy to Love” with Ester Williams and many other films during the heyday.  The original owners moved the cottage here from Avon Park Bombing range where it was officers’ quarters in 1947 and built the home in 1957. It has only been for sale one time in 68 years and even then, it was only on the market for 24 hours! Don’t snooze or you’ll lose on this one? … It’s priced to sell!

The Water’s Edge Lakeside Guest Cottage at 2006 ½ Helena Road, Winter Haven, FL 33884

Set back off the road and hidden amidst tropical foliage, the cottage sits on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Eloise.  A 1200+ year old Bald Cypress tree and many other ancient cypress trees offer comfort and cool shade to the cottage guests. Spanish moss swaying gently in the breeze and gentle waves lapping against the seawall sooth the ears and the soul. Nature comes alive with over 42 species of birds within plain site. It’s like being in a bird blind.  An occasional otter or squirrel passes by. Wood ducks nest in the nesting boxes, and one year a bee hive inhabited one of the offshore trees.  You’ll see Woodpeckers, Blue Jays, Ospreys, Eagles, Red Birds, Black Birds, Mocking Birds, Owls, Threlkels, Coots, Crows,  White Ibis, Great Blue Herons, Gray Herons, Anhinga’s (snake birds), Egrets  and White Herons,  just to name a few.    White Pelicans visit the lake for a couple of weeks on the way to South America in the winter and again in the spring on their way back to Canada.

And the sunsets, are spectacular…  They are different, exquisite, living paintings, each evening for your enjoyment.  Walk to the end of the private dock, and fish a while.

It may be hot in other places, however with double hung windows on every side and a wrap-around porch across the back, the cottage is a place to relax in the fresh air, enjoy a book, a meal, a nap, or a sunset. …wet a line, or go boating. Who wouldn’t want to work from home here?  It is hard wired for phone lines and high speed internet, surround sound and TV both inside and outside.

The picturesque cottage features wood laminate floors, colonial baseboards and crown molding throughout.  Tongue and groove cypress ceilings adorn both the 552 SF cottage and the covered 504SF lakeside porch.  Hardiboard siding protects from water and makes maintenance easy.  Double-hung double pane windows on all sides and a beautiful front screen door facilitate a comfortable temperature year round without AC, as well as great water views on three sides. It has an open floor plan and is very efficient in the use of space.  You’ll have a living room/dining room combo, kitchen, laundry closet, and a large bathroom with mirrored closet , shower, tall toilet, cabinets, heat lamp and exhaust fan and plenty of towel racks! Sturdy blinds, ceiling fans and recessed mood lighting are found throughout.

You’ll be amazed at the amount of Kitchen cabinets you have! The kitchen also features a breakfast bar and a tiled back splash, a pass through window to the lanai bar, and stainless appliances.  Appliances include a convection/microwave oven, built in cooktop, deep sink, dishwasher, side-by-side frig with ground level freezer and filtered water on demand, whole house water purifier, and built in coffee maker.  You also enjoy central HVAC, and an instant on hot water heater that saves on utilities.

The Main House

This 1847 SF single family block home has weathered many hurricanes.  It needs some updating on the inside, or you can build your own dream home here. It currently features 3 bedrooms, 1bath, Kitchen, Main Living Room, Family Room, Dining Room and a large utility room.  It has Florida pine kitchen cabinets, a built in china cabinet, and built in office cabinets in one bedroom. There are no deed restrictions and no Homeowners Association butting into your biz.

The Yard

The home and cottage are fenced separately.  The property features mature Oaks, Cypress trees, and a large Beauty Palm (Phoenix Reclinata), a Popcorn tree, and a Flame Vine.  It also has lot of fruit – citrus, loquat, papaya, neem, moringa, mulberry, fig, avocado, mango, a  muscadine grape vine and a Surinam cherry hedge.  Honeysuckle sweetens the summer evening air and 4 o’clocks greet you at dinnertime.

This property is a little piece of heaven.  Very quiet, yet only a block from Legoland, restaurants, and shopping in Winter Haven, FL.  Winter Haven is in the middle of the middle of FL.  20 minutes south of I-4, 5 minutes west of Highway 27, and halfway between Tampa and Orlando, it is convenient to the whole state.

Once you live here, you will agree that the peace and beauty you experience is worth a million bucks. Cypress Trees dot the lake shore, and 392 ft. of seawall define the two peninsulas and 2 private lagoons.  A private boat dock sits in the north lagoon.
